MINNESOTA FFA ALUMNI BY-LAWS
Preamble: These by-laws should be considered a part of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association
Article I – Location of Principle Office
The principle office of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association should be located in the Division of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Education, University of Minnesota, St. Paul, Minnesota.
Article II – Dues
The annual and life dues of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association should be recommended by the Alumni Council and fixed by a majority vote of the members present at the annual meeting.
Full State and National dues SHALL be paid by all members of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association and no member shall be considered as active and in good standing unless current State and National dues are paid.
The dues of local affiliates SHALL be fixed by the membership of that affiliate.
Individuals may become Minnesota FFA Alumni members upon RECEIPT of State Life Membership dues. This state life membership will not exclude state life members from paying National annual or life dues.
Article III – Procedure for selecting the officers and the Minnesota FFA Alumni Council.
The President names the nominating committee, consisting of three (3) past presidents ninety (90) days before the annual meeting. It is the duty of the nominating committee to nominate the officers to be elected at the annual meeting and to oversee the selection of other Council Members.
The eight regional alumni council representatives Shall be elected within their respective regions of the Minnesota FFA Association. Each member in good standing shall be entitled to vote at the regional meeting. If the regions do not identify a representative sixty (60) days before the annual meeting, one is nominated by the nominating committee.
The immediate past State FFA President Shall serve as a member of the Council by virtue of his/her position. The State FFA advisor and State FFA executive secretary or their designees will serve as ex-official non-voting members.
The immediate Past President of the Minnesota Association of Agricultural Educators or his/her designated representative shall represent the Agricultural Educators.
The chair or his/her designee of the division of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Education shall represent the teacher educators.
The President of the Minnesota FFA Foundation or his/her designee shall represent the FFA Foundation.
All regional Alumni Council members shall serve a two-year term, which coincides with the date of the annual meeting. Regions I, III, V, and VII shall elect alumni council representatives in the even numbered years. Regions II, IV, VI, VIII shall elect council representatives in the odd number years. The member at-large is nominated by the Nominating Committee, serves a two-year term, is selected in the odd numbered years, and shall be approved by the council.
All Council members must be members of the National FFA Alumni Association.
Whenever a vacancy occurs within the Minnesota FFA Alumni Council other than from expiration of their term of office, the State FFA Alumni Council shall appoint a person to fill out the term of the office until it expires.
Article IV – Duties of the Alumni Council Regional Representatives
It shall be the duty of the Alumni Council Regional Representatives to:
1. Assist in the organization of the local affiliates within their region.
2. Serve a liaison between the local Affiliates and the Minnesota FFA Alumni Council.
3. Prepare a procedure for the election of the regional representatives.
4. Attend all meetings of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association and the Council.
5. Inform the State FFA Association and the Alumni Association of regional activities.
Article V – Fiscal Year
The fiscal year of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association shall commence on the first day of January and end the last day of December.
Bills and receipts of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association may be inspected by any member in good standing or his/her agent at any reasonable time.
There shall be an audit of the Financial Records of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association biennially or when deemed necessary by the Council.
Article VI – Reports
An annual Minnesota FFA Alumni Association Report SHALL be submitted to the National FFA Alumni Association after the completion of the State FFA Alumni Association fiscal year on forms provided by the national office.
Article VII – Amendments to the By-Laws
These by-laws may be amended by an affirmative vote of all Council present at a regular or special meeting provided that written notice of the proposed amendment shall have been given to all Council members not less than thirty (30) days prior to the meeting.
