Minnesota FFA Alumni Association Constitution

Article I: Name and Emblem
The name of this organization shall be the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association. This organization is formed as a state affiliate with the National FFA Alumni Association.
The emblem of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association shall be the same as the National FFA Alumni Association, a triangular shield with an FFA emblem and the word “Alumni” below it.
Article II: Purpose
The purpose of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association shall be:
1. To support and promote FFA activities and agricultural education on local, state and national levels.
2. To provide a tie to and assist FFA and agricultural education personnel to involve former members, supporters and volunteers in worthy activities.
3. To promote greater knowledge of the agricultural industry and support education in agriculture.
4. To cooperate with the Minnesota FFA Association, local FFA alumni affiliates, the National FFA Alumni Association and the Minnesota FFA Foundation. (Minnesota Constitution)
5. To promote and maintain an appreciation of the American free enterprise system.
6. To promote the personal development of the FFA and FFA alumni members and volunteers.
Article III: Membership
Membership shall be open to anyone interested in supporting FFA, Agricultural Education, or volunteerism. Membership in the FFA Alumni includes many rights, benefits, and privileges, however, no level of membership entitles any member to act for and/or on behalf of any local, state or the National FFA Alumni Association regarding any policy or position unless granted by and through the bylaws and/or is otherwise granted specifically, in writing, by the National FFA Alumni Association.
The Minnesota FFA Alumni Association shall consist of chartered local affiliates organized on a school or other area basis. Membership may also be at large when no local affiliate is in existence.
A local affiliate shall be eligible to become a chartered affiliate when:
1. It has at least ten members who have paid state and national dues.
2. Local FFA Alumni affiliates can only use the FFA Alumni name and insignias if they have paid state and national FFA Alumni dues.
3. Its purposes or constitution and/or bylaws are in harmony with the Minnesota and National FFA Alumni Associations.
4. When it has a designated executive group with officers
When a local group becomes eligible to affiliate, it shall apply to the National Association to be chartered as a local affiliate of the National and Minnesota FFA Alumni Association.
The local affiliates are eligible to maintain affiliation status provided the requirements stated in this article continue to be met.
Article IV: Minnesota FFA Alumni Officers
The executive body of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association shall be the Minnesota FFA Alumni Council. Minnesota FFA Alumni Council members shall hold current FFA Alumni membership status, except those members who are active FFA members.
The officers of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association will be the President, President-Elect and the immediate Past-President, Secretary, Treasurer & Membership Chair.
Duties/qualifications of officers
a. The president will be an individual who has served as the President-Elect the previous term.
b. The President will be the principal officer of the Association.
c. It will be the President’s duty to preside at all meetings of the National FFA Alumni Council, the Executive Committee and the Association and to carry out the general mission and objectives of the Association.
d. The President will be an ex officio member of all committees, except for the nominating committee.
a. The President-Elect, at the direction of the President, will act in the President’s behalf, and perform such duties as are usual and customary of a vice president.
b. Any candidate for the office of President-Elect must first have been elected by the delegates to any other elected position on the Council and served at least one year in that position.
c. Likewise, the Past President or other retired council members may not be a candidate for President-Elect without first being elected again and serving one year on the council.
3. Past President
a. Is the immediate Past President of the association.
b. Should the President-Elect not be able or available to perform the assigned duties of that office, the immediate Past President will assume the duties of that office until such time as the President-Elect is able to resume such duties or until the Minnesota FFA Alumni Council appoints a person to complete the unexpired term of office of the President-Elect.
a. The secretary shall be an individual elected by the membership.
b. The primary duties of the secretary shall be to keep an accurate record of minutes of the Minnesota FFA Alumni annual meeting of the membership and meetings of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Council
a. The treasurer shall be an individual elected by the membership.
b. The primary duties of the treasurer shall be to collect member and affiliate dues as well as keep an accurate record of all Minnesota FFA Alumni funds.
c. The treasurer shall also provide a detailed budget report to the Minnesota FFA Alumni council and to the membership at the Minnesota FFA Annual Alumni meeting.
6. Membership Chair
a. The membership chair shall be appointed by the Minnesota FFA Alumni Council board of directors
b. The primary duties of the membership chair shall be to keep track of individual alumni members and affiliates in good standing.
c. The membership chair shall provide timely accurate reports of state alumni membership in cooperation with the National FFA Alumni
d. He/she shall also provide potential alumni affiliates with information to charter an FFA Alumni chapter
All officers shall serve a two-year term.
Article V: Meetings
There shall be an annual meeting of the membership of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association. Additional membership meetings may be called by the Minnesota FFA Alumni Council.
Each affiliate shall be entitled to one voting delegate plus one additional voting delegate for every ten members or major fraction thereof above the original ten members.
The minutes of the pervious annual meeting will be published and presented to the delegates when they register and thus will not need to be read at the annual meeting.
A summarized audit report will be presented at the annual meeting.
Article VI: Quorum
A quorum will consist of 50 percent of the registered delegates.
Article VII: Parliamentary Authority
The rules contained in the current edition of Robert Rules of Order Newly Revised shall govern the association in all cases to which they are not inconsistent with these bylaws and any special rules of order the association may adopt.
Article VIII: Amendments
Proposed amendments to the constitution of the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association may be submitted by a local affiliate or by any active members and must be in writing and received by the secretary sixty days prior to the opening date of the annual meeting.
Proposed amendments will be reviewed by the Minnesota FFA Alumni Council and sent to the delegate body with one of the following three recommendations:
a. Recommend adoption
b. No recommendation
c. Do not recommend adoption
The amendments shall be submitted to the affiliates at least 30 days prior to the opening date of the annual meeting.
1. Voting shall be at the annual meeting. A two-thirds vote of registered delegates shall be necessary to adopt an amendment.
