Integral Nature of Instruction, FFA, and SAE
What is Ag ed and the bike model?
What is an SAE?
The Bike Model of Agricultural Education
Agricultural education operates like a tricycle, each part essential to keeping students moving forward.
The three wheels represent:
- Classroom Instruction (Front Wheel)
The front wheel guides the direction of student learning, providing foundational knowledge and skills in agriculture, science, and leadership. - FFA (One Back Wheel)
FFA supports student growth through leadership opportunities, competitions, and career exploration—bringing lessons to life beyond the classroom. - SAE – Supervised Agricultural Experience (Other Back Wheel)
SAE gives students real-world experience through hands-on projects or work-based learning, helping them apply what they learn in meaningful ways.
Just like a tricycle needs all three wheels to move forward, students need all three components—instruction, FFA, and SAE—to gain the full value of agricultural education.
